Supetar is a real island town and the biggest Brač’s village. A real heart of the island located in its northern part. It is also an excellent starting point for exploring this beautiful, diverse and very interesting island. Supetar is also administrative, cultural, economic and touristic centre and has a very good ferryboat connection with Split. Supetar abounds with points of historical heritage which is not surprising as its history goes back to the period of Roman emperors.
If you love freedom, live on the move, do sports or are a recreationist; if you hike, run, swim, dive… Supetar is your town, and Brač is the island for you.
It''s not that you won''t enjoy sunbathing on the beaches and drinking coffee on the Supetar waterfront, but Supetar and Brač simply call for action and exploration. You will want to conquer some of the peaks on Vidova Gora, run along the coast in the early morning, dive into the blue sea or walk on one of the thematic trails that reveal the most beautiful places on the island, such as the olive grove in Mirca, an abandoned quarry above Splitska or the historic center of Supetar. If you’re not in top form, the 135 kilometres of the Via Brattia that connects the 12 biggest attractions may seem like too much for you. Don''t give up! You can join and leave this hiking tourist trail in any of the island towns; it circles almost the entire coast of the island.
Choose the pace yourself and enjoy the adventure. In addition to the churches of St. Spyridon not far from Sutivan and St. Martin above Bobovišće, the attractive Blaca Hermitage, the Dominican monastery in Bol and the Franciscan monastery in Sumartin, the Basilica of St. John, the Lovrečina Bay with the remains of the basilica of St. Lawrence and Mirja above Postira, this longest Brač trail also has the Dragon''s Cave above Murvica where Glagolitic priests lived, Podsmrčevik - one of the five hamlets, the stonemasonry school in Pučišća and the Museum of the Island of Brač in Škrip.
Passionate fishermen in excellent shape will choose big game fishing, while lovers of water attractions will choose water ball, banana boat, tube, jet ski, fun in the marine aqua park, kayaking, pedal boats or a boat ride on one of the beaches of Supetar. One thing is for sure, Supetar provides the right dose of culture and adventure. And all those who find this to be “too little”, can head out further, to the heart of Brač, by bike, quad, on foot. Climbing to Smrka, going down by bicycle from Vidova Gora to the sea, tasting vitalac and a glass of red wine. To get the dose of that joie de vivre which has a special dimension on Brač.
Island life is magical. Those who have visited Supetar on Brač at least once know this well, and there are at least ten reasons why you should visit it as well.
Sveti Vid on Vidova gora, the highest peak on Brač, offers the most beautiful view of the entire archipelago of Central Dalmatia. If you are a hiker, you will not want to forego the ascent to the 778 metre high peak, and if you are not in best shape, you can also reach it by car.
Coming to Supetar and Brač without tasting top quality Brač lamb, extra virgin olive oil of protected geographical origin, the delicious hrapoćuša cake, Brač gingerbread or kroštula, feeling the powerful Brač Plavac Mali wines…, is like not having been there. Don't count the calories, because the island cuisine is part of the healthy Mediterranean diet that is also protected by UNESCO.
Don't miss the Blaca Hermitage
You can only reach it by macadam road, but it is worth every step of the way. Located between Murvica and Bol, it was built in the 16th century by priests, hermits from Poljica. Home to priests and the centre of cultural life until the middle of the 20th century, today Blaca is one of the biggest attractions on Brač.
Stop by Pučišća
We strongly recommend a trip from Supetar to Pučišća. Walk through the centre of the small town to the famous stonemasonry school, and on the way back take a swim in the beautiful Lovrečina bay and have lunch in the picturesque Dol. Of course, not necessarily in that order.
Dive into the depths of the sea
Those who have tried it say that there is nothing like it. With experienced instructors from the Brač diving centres, everything is easier, so dive without fear and enjoy the silence of the depths. If you aren''t convinced, there are also simpler ways to have an active vacation, such as walking or running by the sea, sun salutations or meditation.
Don't forget the souvenirs
Original, different, perfect souvenir or a great gift! Souvenirs made of Brač stone, olive wood, excellent Brač olive oil or the s778 Heritage gin, the first gin from Brač, are the right choice for keeping Supetar and Brač close to your heart. You will remember this island forever.
Supetar in one day? During the summer, it’s best to go for a swim on one of Supetar''s beaches, choose a rustic tavern or restaurant and enjoy the great island cuisine, stroll through the historic centre with a mandatory break or two in one of the cafes on the Supetar waterfront. This is the best way to feel the island''s laid-back attitude, ease of living and Mediterranean openness, so you will board the last ferry full of positive energy. Whether you come to Supetar for a weekend or perhaps a three-day trip, it is enough for you to fit in, become a local, find your place on the beach, a favourite cafe for morning coffee and embrace the afternoon fjaka (special state of mind when you don’t feel like doing anything) as something you were born with. Now that you have become a Supetar local, it would not be bad to get to know your little town and its surroundings a little better, and the fastest way to do that is to choose one of the three attractive thematic trails. The cultural walk ""A Day with Rendić"" goes through the historic centre of Supetar, the Hercules trail goes from Splitska to the abandoned quarry, while the Olive Paths go through the most beautiful olive groves.
Supetar in seven days, well, that’s a holiday to remember. Some swimming, some sunbathing, pure pleasure and excursions around the island that turn into a real adventure. Be sure to climb Sveti Vid, the highest peak of Vidova Gora, visit Škrip, the Blaca Hermitage, Dragon''s Cave, pastoral village Gažul, Dol…, have a swim on Zlatni Rat, Lovrečina Bay or Zora in Sumartin…, and be sure to try vitalac, the hrapoćuša cake and the Brač olive oil. For the best way to tour the island, we recommend the Via Brattia, a hiking tourist trail whose 135 kilometres circulate almost the entire coast of the island, making it the Brač version of the Camino. Ideal choice in late summer, early fall or spring. And when it rains (which is really rare on this island) you can spend the day visiting galleries and museums. Start from the Ivan Rendić Gallery in Supetar, the Jakšić Gallery in Donji Humac, through the Island of Brač Museum and the Olive Oil Museum in Škrip, the Branislav Dešković Gallery in Bol, to the Stonemasonry School in Pučišća.
